지난 8월 크리스토퍼 스팍스 대한씨름협회 이사(영남대학교 체육학부 교수)가 TBS eFM "Inside Out" 프로그램(황이규 PD)에 출연했다.

스팍스 이사는 이 프로그램의 진행자 월터포어맨씨와 45분간의 인터뷰를 통해 씨름을 알게 된 계기, 새롭게 저술한 영어 씨름책(Ssireum: The Living Culture)을 비롯한 씨름에 대한 이야기를 나누었으며, 녹음된 내용은 지난 8월 2일 아침 9시에 방송되었다.

이번 방송출연은 손지애 기자(Korea.net)가 쓴 스팍스 이사의 씨름 관련 인터뷰 기사를 최경미 작가가 보고 출현을 제의하였고, 이에 스팍스 이사가 많은 외국인에게 씨름을 소개하기 위해서 직접 Inside out 프로그램 녹음실을 방문함으로써 성사되었다.

TBS eFM “Inside Out” Ssireum Interview

In early July I was contacted by 최경미, the writer for TBS eFM’s human interest program called Inside Out. The program is hosted by 월터 포어맨 from Korea University and produced by 황이규. They had read an interview I did with 손지애 for Korea.net (the government run bilingual news site) and thought it would be interesting to talk about ssireum. I travelled up to Seoulfortheinterviewandeveryonewiththeprogramwasverykindandveryinterestedlearningmoreaboutssireum. The interview was about 45 minutes long and broadcast on Saturday, August 2 from 9 to 10am. We talked about how I got introduced to ssireum, the new book Ssireum: The Living Culture, and about ssireum competitions in general. Because TBS is an English language station, the interview was done in English and the target audience is English speakers living in Korea. TBS eFM broadcasts online as well as 101.3FM in Seoul.
